A delicious, low carb, and easy marinade that adds an Asian flare to any meat!

All summer long, we’ve really been enjoying our barbecue. My husband LOVES to grill meat! It helps that he’s actually quite good at it. Even since he bought this meat thermometer, we’ve had perfect grilled meat every time!
There is nothing worse than grilling an amazing piece of grass fed steak and it comes off the BBQ still mooing or else hard as a rock. Thank goodness hubby invested in that thermometer…we’ve had many delicious pieces of grilled meat this summer.
Another thing you need to make delicious grilled meat is a good marinade! I love the flavour and tenderness a marinade adds to meat.
Since switching to a low carb way of eating, I thought it would be super simple to find a low carb marinade recipe. However, it seems that so many of them contain a lot of sugar!

I’ve been experimenting with an Asian-flavoured marinade for the past few months, and I think I’ve finally perfected it!
The only sugar you’ll find in this recipe is a little bit of stevia! I find the coconut aminos give it added sweetness already. If you haven’t tried coconut aminos, definitely give them a try, I prefer them over Bragg’s liquid aminos.
We used it on steak, but it’s also great with chicken, pork, or fish! Just combine all the ingredients and pour over your meat. I like to let it sit for at least 2 hours, the longer it marinates, the better.
- 5Tbsp coconut aminos
- 3 Tbsp no sugar added ketchup
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1Tbsp grated gingerroot
- 2 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 4drops liquid stevia
- 1/4tsp fresh ground pepper
-
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and pour over meat in a large, heavy duty, resealable plastic bag or a glass container.
-
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight if possible.
-
This makes enough for 1-1/2 pounds of meat.
