Back in the day when I was eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, McDonald’s chocolate milkshakes were a regular occurrence for me. While I knew they weren’t good for me, I didn’t think twice about what was in it.
Now that I choose to feed my body with whole foods instead of junk, I’ve looked up the ingredients in a McDonald’s chocolate milkshake and it looks something like this:
CHOCOLATE SHAKE SYRUP (High Fructose Corn Syrup, Corn Syrup, Water, Cocoa (Processed with Alkali), Natural and Artificial Flavors, Caramel Color, Salt, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Artificial Flavor (Vanillin), Red 40.) , VANILLA REDUCED FAT ICE CREAM (Milk, Liquid Sucrose (Sugar, Water), Cream, Nonfat Milk Solids, Corn Syrup Solids, Mono- and Diglycerides, Guar Gum, Dextrose, Sodium Citrate, Artificial Vanilla Flavor, Sodium Phosphate, Carrageenan, Disodium Phosphate, Cellulose Gum, Vitamin A Palmitate.), MARASCHINO CHERRY (Cherries, Water, Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sugar, Malic Acid, Citric Acid, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate (Preservatives), Red 40, Sulfur Dioxide as Preservative (Contains Sulfites).),WHIPPED CREAM (Cream, NONFAT MILK (Nonfat Milk, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3 Added. ), Corn Syrup, Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Contains 1% or Less: Mono-And Diglycerides, Carrageenan, Polysorbate 80, Beta Carotene (Color), Natural and Artificial Flavor, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E) to Protect Flavor. Whipping Propellant (Nitrous Oxide).
Oh my goodness! Just check out all the high fructose corn syrup!
And let’s not forget to mention that a medium McDonald’s milkshake also has 89 grams of sugar PLUS 89 grams of added sugar! WTF?! That’s 22.5 tsp of sugar per serving.
Okay, enough about that milkshake, it’s making me feel ill! Let’s get to the real thing, shall we?!
This Keto Chocolate Milkshake has taken me a while to perfect. I’m a bit of a shake snob when it comes to my milkshakes. They have to be the perfect texture – not too runny, not too thick.
I played around with the ingredients for a few weeks until I got it just right!
This chocolate milkshake contains a bunch of healthy fats which will keep you full for hours!
